After departing from Japan, it took more than 24 hours to arrive in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda.

日本から２４時間以上かかって、ルワンダの首都キガリに到着。

Right before boarding plane again, I was taking pictures.

Then one African man said smilingly,

"hey babe, you should not take pictures. You can be mistaken for a terrorist."

The gentleman got off the plane at next stop, Brundi.

ナイロビの空港へ降りる。

暑い。

キガリ行きの飛行機に乗り継ぐ際、写真を撮っていたら、

「ねえ君、写真は撮らない方がいいよ。テロリストと間違えられるから」

と一人のアフリカ人男性が笑いながら教てくれた。

その優しい彼は次のブルンジで降りた。

200 kinds of 30,000 cherry blossom trees are planted in Yoshino. There are 4 areas in Yoshiono　Mountain such as Shimo Senbon (lower 1000 trees) at the base of the mountain, Naka Senbon (middle 1000 trees), Kami Senbon (upper 1000 trees) and Oku Senbon (inner 1000 trees) at the top of the mountain.  Though I was only able to see lower cherry blossoms(Shimo Senbon) this time, moutain cherry　blossom were very good.

200種類30,000本の桜が植えられている吉野。下千本、中千本、上千千本、奥千本のうち、まだ下千本しか咲いていなかったけれど、山桜もいいなと思う。

I went to world heritage Kyoto Daigoji Temple to see the cherry blossoms which is estimated to be more than 200 years old. Many stakes hold branches. Its transient beauty was worth more dead than alive. Silence matches well with this old lady. I admire her life to live such a long time.

樹齢200年とも言われる桜を醍醐寺に見に行く。枝々を支えられ、その美しさは息も絶え絶えで儚い。静けさがよく似合う。よく今までもったものだと思う。

Anyway, I got some tea at Tosa-cya cafe (Tosa Tea Cafe) in my hometown, Kochi.

When I was a child, I saw movie called  "The Right Stuff". Actor Sam Shepard was super cool. How much excitement I felt when I saw space and stars beyond the airplane ascending into the sky. Best wishes for 2011.

子供の頃、映画館で「ライトスタッフ」を観た。 俳優サム・シェパードは信じられないほどカッコよく、空に向かって上昇する飛行機のその先に星と宇宙が垣間見えた時、どれだけ心動かされたことか。 今年も良い年となりますように。
