200 kinds of 30,000 cherry blossom trees are planted in Yoshino. There are 4 areas in Yoshiono　Mountain such as Shimo Senbon (lower 1000 trees) at the base of the mountain, Naka Senbon (middle 1000 trees), Kami Senbon (upper 1000 trees) and Oku Senbon (inner 1000 trees) at the top of the mountain. Though I was only able to see lower cherry blossoms(Shimo Senbon) this time, moutain cherry　blossom were very good.

200種類30,000本の桜が植えられている吉野。下千本、中千本、上千千本、奥千本のうち、まだ下千本しか咲いていなかったけれど、山桜もいいなと思う。

I went to world heritage Kyoto Daigoji Temple to see the cherry blossoms which is estimated to be more than 200 years old. Many stakes hold branches. Its transient beauty was worth more dead than alive. Silence matches well with this old lady. I admire her life to live such a long time.

My friend who visited New Zealand gave me Kiwi cookie and Kiwi tea. The texture of Kiwi seeds in cookie was unique. Before flying to New Zealand, she was very excited to see flightless birds, Kiwi, however, since Kiwi were nocturnal, she could not see them during daytime. They seemed to be asleep.

ニュージーランドに遊びに行っていた友人からキウイのクッキーとキウイの紅茶をもらう。クッキーに練り込まれているキウイの種のぷちぷちした食感が不思議だった。飛べない鳥キーウィを見たい！と出発前はりきっていたが、キーウィは夜行性のため昼間は寝ていたらしく見れなかったそうだ。

Hye Jeong who came to Japan for the first time from Korea in September gave me her mother's handmade Korean Miso (bean paste) and Kimuchi (Korean pickle). Korean Miso looks just like Japanese one but has very different smell. It was made with water coming down to Hye Jeong's family going back to 50 years. Beans with the water were matured for 3 months on ondol. I like this first time taste. When I ate it, I felt some beans retaining original shapes in my mouth. Kimuchi are fierier than Japanese one. But according to Hye Jeong, it's not at all. With such a wonderful ingredients, I made miso soup and Jjigae (kind of Korean & Western stew). They were very good. I also sauteed Kimuchi, chopped cabbages, kidney beans, and pork with Korean Miso. When she tasted it, she was surprised since it was first time to eat sauteed Kimuchi with Miso and no such cooking style exsisted in Korea.

She was looking for a part time job to improve her Japanese. She really wished to work in Japanese environment and had interviews with many companies such as McDonald's, Mister Donut, convenience store and others. But no company hired her. Whenever I knew the result, I cracked a joke. "Take it easy, it's gonna be alright!"　Then, she got a job at Korean restaurant through her mother's channel. Hye Jeong's mother had been concerned about her. She decided to move to Nippori near her working place. As I was shocked by the unexpected change, I tried to hold her back. "Hey, you shouldn't go. It's sounds fishy and kind of dangerouns!" Then Hye Jeong　smiled and explained about the good connection of Chiristian seriously. The restaurant was run by church elder.

A few days before movig, me and Hye Jeong had last Sushi dinner and frolicked around. When I expressed how much I want to visit Pusan where my favorite movie "Chingu (Friend) " was filmed, she gave me her mobile phone # in Korea since Pusan is close to her hometown. "Please certainly give me a call when you come to Korea!" How exciting to imagine to hear real Pusan accent of Chingu world, though I cannot understand Korean at all.

Hye Jeong, I'll visit your restaurant before very long. I'll go to Pusan on a ship as I promised.

9月に日本に初めて韓国からやってきたへジョンが、韓国のお母さん手作りのお味噌とキムチをおすそ分けしてくれた。日本の味噌とよく似ているが独特の香りがする。50年前から家に伝わる水と大豆で3か月間オンドルの上で熟成させて作ったそうだ。豆がごろごろしていておいしい。キムチは日本のよりも辛いが、へジョンに言わせると辛くないそうだ。味噌汁、チゲ鍋を作ってみる。なかなかおいしい。キムチ、豚肉、キャベツ、いんげんを味噌で炒めてへジョンに味見してもらうと、味噌でキムチを炒めた料理は韓国にはなく、初めてだと驚かれる。

日本語が上手になりたいと、あえて日本語を使う環境に身を置くために、マック、ミスド、コンビニなど毎日のようにバイトの面接に行っては落とされていた。がっかりするへジョンを、そのうちどこか決まるから慌てなくてもいいよと適当な冗談で励ましていた矢先、心配していた韓国のお母さんの紹介で韓国料理店で働くことが決まった。職場に近いということで急遽、日暮里に引っ越すことになったへジョン。つい寂しくなり、「怪しい。危ない店なんじゃないの？ずっとここにいた方がいいよ」と引き止めるが、クリスチャンの長老様が経営する店だからと大丈夫と、笑って真面目に韓国ネットワークについて教えてくれた。

引越前、寿司屋で盛り上がる。韓国には行ったことがないけれど、大好きな映画「チング～友へ～」の舞台になった釜山にいつか行ってみたいと話すと、「私の住む町は釜山から近い。韓国に来たら絶対電話して下さい」と韓国での携帯番号をくれた。釜山訛りは標準語とは全く違って荒いそうだ。韓国語は全く分からないが本物のチングの世界の言葉が聞けると思うとワクワクする。

へジョン、そのうちお店にごはん食べに行くよ。釜山には船で行くよ。

I discover a small hole in the mound of earth and fallen leaves, something tiny and brown is lurking further in inside the small den. A frog, making itself ready for the upcoming winter, they stay burrowed underneath the ground, hibernating through the cold winter and resurface once the spring arrives. Crawl as close as I can without scare it from its position, mounts on my macro lens and focus on the eyes. With a questioning look the frog stares back at me, maybe wondering what that huge creature outside the den is doing.

Moving away a couple of meters, take a seat down on the rocks and closing my eyes for a moment, the only sound is the waterfall and a gentle breeze that catches my hair, soon the area will gain more of the colors of autumn and when the frog wakes up from it’s winter sleep next year, the sound of the water will welcome it as it crawls up from the soil.

土と落ち葉の中に小さな穴を見つける。小さくて茶色い何かが隠れている。蛙が冬支度をしていた。春になりまた出て来る日まで寒い冬を冬眠するのだ。驚かさないよう腹這いになり、近付けるだけ近付く。マクロレンズで目に焦点をあてる。不思議そうに蛙がじっと僕を見つめる。この巨大な生き物は一体巣の外で何をしているのだろうと不思議がっているのかもしれない。

数メートル離れて岩に腰掛け、しばし目を閉じる。滝の音だけが聞こえ、やわらかな風が髪を撫でる。この辺りはすぐに紅葉一色となる。来年の春、蛙が冬眠から目覚め土の下から這い上がって来たら、この水の音が彼を迎える。

Jag upptäcker ett litet hål bland sluttningens jord och fallna löv, någonting litet och brunt lurar längre in i den lilla hålan. En groda som gör sig redo inför den kommande vintern, de håller sig nedgrävda under marken, de går i ide under den kalla vintern och dyker upp igen när våren anländer. Kryper så nära jag kan utan att skrämma iväg den, sätter på mitt makroobjektiv och fokuserar på dess ögon. Med en frågande blick tittar grodan tillbaka på mig, kanske undrar vad den enorma varelsen utanför hålan gör.

Flyttar på mig ett par meter, sätter mig på ett par stenblock och sluter mina ögon för en stund, det enda ljudet som hörs är vattenfallet och en lätt bris som fångar mitt hår, snart kommer området få ännu mer höstfärger och när grodan vaknar upp ur sin vinterdvala nästa år kommer ljudet av vattnet välkomna den när den kryper upp ur jorden.

Moisture, birdsong, wet soil and the sound of water a bit further up. It is the beginning of September as I walk through the wooden landscape of Silverfallen, (Silverfalls) this beautiful area just outside my childhood town has been a sanctuary many times for my mind to be refreshed by the great trees that stand like brown pillars and the streams that goes like staircases down and past the old ruins. With careful step on the damp stairway I’ve reached the upper levels, on my right side there is a steep edge and beneath the spreading branches the water flows swiftly before splashing down the largest waterfall. The total height of all the waterfalls together stretches up to 50-60 meters and at the far end down the area the current continues as a calm gentle creek.

水蒸気に満ちた空気、鳥のさえずり、濡れた土、水の音――もうすぐだ。 9月初旬、シルバーフォールの森を歩く。この美しい場所は幼い頃過ごした町のすぐそばだ。柱のように空に向かってそびえ立つ木々、太古からの空間を階段のような姿で流れる水。この神聖な場所で何度心がリフレッシュしてきたことだろう。 注意して濡れた階段を昇り切ると、右手に急こう配が広がる。真下に向かう幾すじもの流れは、急速に合流して大きな滝となる。 滝全体は50～60メートルほどで、流れ落ちた先には穏やかで静かな川が広がる。

Fukt, fågelsång, våt jord och ljudet av vatten en bit längre upp. Det är början på september när jag går genom Silverfallens skogslandskap, detta vackra område precis utanför min hemstad har varit en fristad många gånger för mitt sinne att uppfräschas av de stora träden som står likt stora bruna pelare, samt strömmen som går likt trappsteg ner och förbi de gamla ruinerna. Med försiktiga steg på den fuktiga trappan når jag de övre höjderna, på min högra sida börjar en brant avsats och nedanför de spretande grenarna flyter vattnet snabbt fram innan det plaskar nerför det största vattenfallet. Den totala höjden med alla vattenfall tillsammans sträcker sig upp till 50-60 meter och allra längst ner fortsätter strömmen som en lugnt, stillsam bäck.

I was invited to all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet at Hotel Pacific Tokyo in Shinagawa. The family who invites me had often enjoyed buffet in this restaurant at every family event. I heard this will be the last buffet as the hotel will close at the end of September. I promised to eat everything in the restaurant and headed to Shinagawa. Right before arriving at the hotel, I found Singaporean restaurant. I had a sudden desire to eat Singaporean food and suggested to have buffet not at Chinese restaurant but Singaporean restaurant. Naturally, my selfish proposal was rejected because the reservation has been already made.

When we arrived, I showed a great readiness to eat everything in the restaurant. But at the glance of the immense quantity of food, I felt full and started from not main but dessert. The restaurant was full with people. If there are so many customers like this, I wish they stay in business. I got such idea for the first and last day.

品川のホテルパシフィック東京にある中華レストランでの食べ放題に招待される。９月末でホテルが閉館する（した）に辺り、家族全員で最後の食事に行くとのことだった。その家族は事あるごとにここで食事をしていたそうだ。お店中のものを食べ尽くします！と約束し、品川に向かう。ホテルパシフィック到着直前、隣のシンガポールレストランが目に入る。突如、シンガポール料理が食べたくなり、今日の食べ放題はこっちでもいいかと提案し、即却下される。当然のことながら部屋も人数も予約済みでそんな勝手が許されるはずはない。

そして、わーい食べ放題。どれだけ食べてもいいのかとやる気満々で入店。しかし凄い量の料理を見ただけでお腹が一杯に。思わずメインではなくデザートからスタート。店内はたくさんの人で賑わっていた。こんなにお客さんが来てくれるのならずっと存続すればいいのに。最初で最後の日にそんなことを思う。

Today was the first day of Japan Premier, "Mother Fish" at UNHCR Refugee Film Festival, and tomorrow will be the second and last screening day. I really want to watch this movie over and over again on the big screen in the theater. I visited classy venue, Istituto Italiano Di Cultura Di Tokyo for the first time and really liked it. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's screening of Mother Fish and Q&A sessions with Director Khoa Do after the screening.

UNHCR難民映画祭で日本初上映の「マザー・フィッシュ」。今日は初日で明日は二回目にして最後の上映日だ。大きなスクリーンでもっと何度も観てみたい。会場のイタリア文化会館も初めてだったがとても素敵な場所だった。明日も「マザー・フィッシュ」と上映後のコア・ドー監督のセッションが楽しみだ。

The inspiring story of four refugees fleeing Vietnam in 1980, MOTHER FISH goes inside the mind of one of the survivors. The present melds with the past as a quiet factory worker relives the extraordinary journey when she and her sister took to the sea in a creaky river boat in search of a better life. And their fate ahead. Director Khoa Do and his family arrived in Sydney as Vietnamese refugees in 1980. One of haunting movies that resonate for me.

10月2日（土）3日（日）、イタリア文化会館で上映される「マザー・フィッシュ」は、二人の姉妹が安住の地を求めて大海へと漕ぎ出す物語だ。1980年にベトナムから逃れた4人の難民の話にインスパイアーされ、物語は生き残った一人の心の中へと深く降りて行く。過去と現在が交錯し、いつしか今働いているはずの工場が、あの時の凄まじい航海の真っただ中となっている。よりよい人生を求めてオンボロボートで海へ飛び出した姉と妹。その先に待ち受ける運命。監督のコア・ドー自身とその家族がベトナム難民として1980年にシドニーに辿り着いている。心に深く響いた一本。

Burma (Myanmar) refugees of the Karen ethnicity arrived in Japan for resettlement from Mae La camp along the Thai border. Director, Clint Eastwood touched persecuted Karen people (<-sorry, not Karen but Hmong) in his movie, "Grand Torino", and the movie, "Moving to Mars" which will be screened at the 5th UNHCR Refugee Film Festival from October 1st also depicts the Burma(Myanmar) refugee families' moving to UK. They have an abiding desire to return the country where they were born and raised and have been eagerly waiting for the day to come, but their wish have never been realized. If they return home, the Myanmar military regime would try to kill them. I don't know if Japan would be haven for them. Although they still have many difficulties ahead due to differences in culture, language and others, I wish someday they could feel happy to have come to Japan.

タイ国境沿いの「メラ難民キャンプ」から、ビルマ（ミャンマー）難民であるカレン族が第三国定住のために日本にやって来た。迫害されるカレン族については(<-モン族でした）クリント・イーストウッド監督の映画「グラン・トリノ」でも取り上げられていたし、10月1日から始まる第5回UNHCR難民映画祭の作品「Moving to Mars ～遥かなる火星への旅～」でも観ることができる。彼らは生まれ育った場所で暮らしたいと何年も難民キャンプでその日をずっと待っていたが、願いが叶うことはなかった。母国に戻れば軍事政権により命を狙われるという選択肢しかない。日本が彼らにとって安息の地であるかどうかは分からない。言葉の問題や文化の違いなど、これからもさまざまな困難が待ち受けているだろう。けれども、日本に来て良かったと本当に思える時がいつか来て欲しいと願うばかりだ。

Every summer, I swim in sea. This year, I swam in Oiso Beach for the first time. After arriving at Oiso, first, we had fresh Sashimi lunch at Oiso Port. After making us full, we started swimming. Though the water transparency was low, I got great feeling from long coast. I have to come back the bakery in front of Oiso station again to buy nice cinammon taste apple pie.

夏は必ず一度は海で泳ぐことにしている。今年は初めての大磯海岸。まずは大礒港近くの食堂で新鮮な刺身定食を食べる。お腹が一杯になって満足したところで海に向かう。水の透明度は今一つだが、長い海岸線は気持ちがいい。帰りに大磯駅前のパン屋で買ったアップルパイはシナモンが利いておいしかった。今度はアップルパイを買いに来よう。

Hi, good to be home! When I came back home, my mother and brother were caring my grandmother. I recommended my brother to read one book, "Kaigo Nyumon" (means introductory care) written by Mob Norio. Because the situation he's been facing were very similar. I jumped into caring rotation for a few days, but it was hard to get up every 3 hours during the night.

On my last day of staying home, early in the morning, I climbed a mountatin to visit and clean family grave with my mom. Right after starting climbing, I began noisy breathing despite gradual sloping road. When I felt exhausted, mom was cutting grasses really fast.

" Mom, sorry, I can't be like you..."

Why she has lots of energy?

After visiting graves, I left home again.

ただいま！と帰ると、母と弟が祖母の介護中。今、起きていることが書かれている！　と、弟に、モブ・ノリオ　「介護入門」を勧める。数日間、介護ローテーションに入ってみるが、夜、３時間おきに起きるのは辛い。

東京に出発する最後の日、早朝、墓掃除のために母と山に登る。少しの傾斜でゼーゼーしてしまう。バテテいる側で、母が凄い勢いで草刈りをしている。

「ママ、私には無理……」

どこからこんな体力が来るのか？　

墓掃除　墓参りを終え、再び故郷を後にする。

道後温泉　神の湯　霊の湯

Dogo Hot Spring has two public baths: Kami-no-yu (Water of the Gods) and Tama-no-yu (Water of the Spirits). Some yeares ago, I visited here but I could not recall at all what they looked like. However, when I entered Tama-no-yu (Water of the Spirits) and got some air from window, the smell of hot water and wind brought back memories. Yes, I definitely remember here, I sat down exactly same place. I felt a sense of nostalgia as well as uncomfortableness, because hot water accelerated the plum wine to go straight to my head. I told myself that let's not drink before bathing.

道後温泉本館には、神の湯、霊の湯という二つの浴場がある。何年か前に一度来たことがあったが、全く思い出せない。けれども霊の湯に浸かり窓から入る風に当たっていると記憶が蘇る。あの時も同じ場所に座り、同じ匂いを嗅いだ。懐かしさと同時に、入浴前に飲んだ梅酒が急激に効き始め、気持ちが悪くなる。お風呂前の飲酒は止めようと自分に言い聞かせる。

I visited Dogo Onsen Hot Spring, one of the oldest hot springs in Japan. According to legend, an egret who injured her/his leg found a hot spring. She/he soaked her/his leg every day. Then, the egret soon got well, and finally she/he could fly away. I also discovered the world of "Botchan" writtne by Soseki Natsume, Japanese novelist of the Meiji Period, 19th century.

日本最古の湯、道後温泉に行く。その昔、足に傷を負った一羽の白鷺が湯に足を浸していたところ傷は癒え、元気に飛び去ったという伝説のある道後温泉。そこには明治の文豪、夏目漱石「坊っちゃん」の世界が広がっていた。

Good and classic atmosphere such as classic streetcar, retro-look station, people wearing Yukata (light cotton kimono for summer) made me feel to grab a drink before soaking in the hot spring. I stopped at retro-flavored Dogo Machiya Cafe and enjoyed cake & plum wine.

My happy reunion with Yumiko was just over 4 hours as I had to move on to Matsuyama on the same day. In the short period of time, we enjoyed panoramic view like picture flame scenery from the reception hall called "Taichorou" in Fukuzen-ji Temple. We had good seafood lunch from the Seto Inland Sea at one restaurant where there was a cute brown Chihuafua. According to Yumiko's advice, talking of cake shop in Fukuyama, Shirobara comes first. So we ended up having tea at Shirobara Cafe in front of JR Fukuyama station. I ate a cake called "Mont Blanc" and it was fabulous.　When can we see again, Yumiko?

ゆみちゃんとの１年ぶりの再会は４時間と少しだった。福山からその日のうちに松山へ移動しなくてはならない。短い時間の中で、鞆の浦にある福禅寺の客殿、対潮楼からまるで額縁に入った絵のような景色を見て、茶色いチワワのいるレストランで瀬戸内の海鮮を食べる。福山でケーキと言えば、白ばら! ということなので、JR福山駅前のケーキ屋「白ばら」でお茶をする。モンブランを食べたがとてもおいしかった。次はいつ会えるかしらね、ゆみちゃん。

We visited Nikko to go chill. We dared go on Friday to avoid getting crowded on Saturday. But actually, there were thousands of adorable kids all over the place!　Indeed, so many kids on school trips attended and there were no free space at all (lol). "We will never get lost if we follow kids!" Thanks to my friend's wise advice, we followed cuties and it worked perfectly.

暑いので日光へ涼みに行く。金曜の方が空いているはずとあえて土曜日を避けたら、そこらじゅうにかわいいのが! あまりにたくさんの修学旅行の子供たちで埋め尽くされており、全く空いてなどいない（笑）。「子供らについて行けば迷わないはず!」　友人の賢明なアドバイスに従い、ばっちりうまくいく。

I visited the Unidango family to see wild fireflies. They congratulated my birthday and I unexpectedly received blue opal ring and candle. As Namako-chan watched, we toasted to everyone's health and happiness with red wine and summer vegetables.

When the sun went down, we walked to the marsh where wild fireflies live. In a light fog, we started to see firefly flashing. It's been years since I've seen wild fireflies. I'll never forget the flashing, the air, the fog, and the smell of moistened grasses. Thank you, Unidangos.

蛍を観に行くことになり、うにだんごちゃん一家のお宅にお邪魔する。思いがけず誕生日まで祝ってもらい、青いオパールの指輪やキャンドルを頂く。なまこちゃんも見守る中、夏野菜やワインで乾杯。

日が沈んだ頃、蛍が棲むという沼地に歩いて向かう。微かにかかる霧の中、小さな光が見え始める。野生の蛍を目にしたのは何年ぶりだろう――。あの光もあの空気もあの霧もそしてあの湿った草の匂いもきっと忘れない。ありがとう、うにちゃんファミリー。

Why Traveling sound so attractive? Unknown place is just so exciting to think about. Our imagination can be limitless. Besides, we expect adventure and re-discovery of ourselves. Anyway, my biggest weak point in travel is reading a Map. Most of the cases, I go to oppsite direction of where I supposed to go. It's like life. I have been doing things that might look waste of time, but that wasteful moment is life I suppose.. . So we have to enjoy "process" not only result. Including bad experience, still I can't stop going out to another world to broad my view. Maybe this is what we call addiction.　

私達はなぜ旅に惹かれるのか？　未知の場所は考えるだけでもわくわくする。それに加えてロマン、自分自身の再発見を期待するからなのだろう。ところで私が旅をする上で一番不利なのは地図だ。だいたい行く方角とは反対方向に行ってしまうことが多い。人生においてもかなり無駄な時間を過ごしてきたように思う。が、そのような寄り道こそが人生そのもののような気がする。私たちは結果だけでなくそのプロセスを楽しまなくちゃいけないと思う。嫌な経験も含めて視野を広げることのできる異国の世界へ行くのを辞められないのは（ていうかすごい短い期間の旅だったけど今回（笑））たぶん中毒のようなものなんだろう。
